The Pigeon Sisters

The pigeon sisters visit me every day and they peck around for seeds that have fallen from the small bird feeder in the tree above. Sometimes I imagine conversations that they’re having with each other. They’re not big conversations because pigeons have limited vocabulary. They are usually about a stick that one of them has found and wants to carry around, or about the view from the fence post.

I have another story about the ducks in the nature reserve and one lone pheasant. But I’ll save that for another day.

P.S. – It is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in the United States. Oh that we can remember him well and live by his words:

“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” MLK

  1. I often imagined them to be a husband and wife pair in their matching outfits….a bit like Howard and Hilda on the TV Sitcom Ever Decreasing Circles on the BBC in the 1980’s……Howard and Hilda wore matching jumpers and finished each other’s sentences…..I used to call the pigeons Howard and Hilda for this very reason.

    1. Ha! Yes, Debbie. I think they might be husband and wife.

Way back in the 1960’s there was a TV program in the US with two characters called the Pigeon Sisters. I guess that’s what popped into my head. On this TV show, the two women were very flirtatious and they giggled all the time.
