The First Saturday of the Month —

…is for the monthly flea market, antique centres, and a little bit of what we like to call up-cycling.

The first Saturday in August also gave us these happy sunflowers with the 12th century church in the background and that brilliant blue sky.

Oh what a week.  I helped AP’s son move from our house into student housing and, whoa.  The post move clean up was not for the faint of heart.

In spite of moving boxes, bags, suitcases, and cleaning rooms… I managed to finish, photograph and list new items in my shop. I’ve also had some August orders to fill!  It’s a great way to start the month.

The antiquing and flea marketing is a side benefit of having my brother-in-law around…a long time dealer in the business.  He invited me to accompany him on some fact-finding and market research missions and so we spent a few afternoons scoping out  antique centres.  Also a nice way to start the month.

In between all of this I’ve been a teeeeeeennnnnyy bit scatter brained.  I missed a conference call and forgot about a volunteer commitment.  It was wiped from my brain completely and I almost spilled my coffee when I realised what I had done.  I apologised profusely to my colleagues and thankfully it was met with humour and understanding.

I’m now keeping a calendar and making to-do lists every day.  It’s part of my morning routine.

And here’s my advice to you… start each day with some quiet time, an inspirational book, a walk, and make a list and look at your calendar.  It never hurts.

  1. So lucky to have antiques at flea markets that are older than your grandmother. Florida was the worst. Nothing older than 1970 usually. As for forgetting shit, use the calendar on your computer. In my advanced age, as my body and mind fail, I have found that entering dates and appointments into the calendar immediately has helped a lot.
