Today is Mother’s Day here in the UK. While I’m not the mom, I have played a role in caring for my two step sons. It’s not an easy job, as you might be able to see from the above photo. I remember this day so well. We were on holiday and I wanted to tour Corfe Castle so we bunged the two boys in the car and drove from our holiday caravan to Corfe Castle — except Alex didn’t want to go. He was extremely angry and let us know that right away. And throughout the day.
So I lost my rag with him about half-way through our outing.
AP took this photo at the end of the day. It still makes me laugh.
Of course that was many years ago and we’ve walked a long road together. I’ve learned a few things from both of my step sons and I’m grateful that they let me be a part of their family. They are amazing people.
I got a very nice Mother’s Day card this morning from the Tall Boy.
As you can see, he’s forgiven me for the Corfe Castle trip… and I hope for my failings and foibles.
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, step-moms, aunties, grandmoms, and loving women everywhere.
That has to be twice as hard as being the birth mother. Looks like you’ve won him over, congratulations.
I have pictures like that too! They’re pretty funny a few years later. Happy Mother’s Day!
I read your comment on my blog–what could be a better way to celebrate the day by becoming a Cat Mommy again? I too was a step-mom and it’s a tough road, although I was lucky and got two great kids who have turned into interesting and funny adults.
Got to get the rest of the family on board. I’ll work on it!
What a lovely picture! Well, both keepers for the album, but the bottom pic is truly special.
I always try to remember that a rough day will some day be a really good anecdote. Nice that you had a picture to keep it fresh. And there’s no question about it, being a step-mother can be hard. But we toughies stick with it and it turns out in the end.
