It’s Come to This…

And now schools in America are having drills to familiarize students with the sound of gunfire…

According to a letter from Cary-Grove High School principal Jay Sargeant, there will be a code red drill at the school on Wednesday.

It will include somebody shooting blanks from a gun in the hallway “in an effort to provide our teachers and students some familiarity with the sound of gunfire.”

The gun culture in America is insane. And I don’t care what my relatives on Facebook say.
Things have slowed down a bit here at Dragonlane but I think you’ve probably guessed that. This week has been about catching up — housework (yuck), laundry (I can cope with that), and some orders for rings and things (no problem).

Pickles and I had a walk around town when the sun came out one afternoon:

This morning she got a big surprise…several pieces of cooked chicken in her food bowl. She did four spins when she saw me cutting up the chicken pieces and then she danced into the lounge for her breakfast. She puts such a smile on my face, even before I’ve had my morning coffee.

Happy Friday.

  1. I do not understand the fetish with guns here in the U.S. It’s like a cult. They’re all about “I need my gun to protect me from… (multiple choice. Pick one or all) The government, roaming bands of rapist thugs, communist hoards from the Soviet Union (even though it doesn’t exist), communist hoards from Kenya, the Black Panthers”, and on and on. These people live in some kind of fantasy land. I have lived 63 years without a gun. I cannot think of one situation that would have been better off if I had, had one. Including the time I was robbed at gunpoint when I was a cab driver in Chicago. Even if you have a gun, you are not going to get it out of your pocket fast enough to thwart the bad guy. Damn, now you’ve gone and got me started.

I’ll just keep looking at Pickles. Very calming.
